 About

Amy holds a Piano Pedagogy diploma from Utah State University where she soaked up every word of her music classes. She has been teaching for over two decades.

Amy began her studies at the age of seven and was immediately hooked!  Her practice time quickly became self-motivated and her love for music propelled her forward. Amy began studying music theory on her own during high school because she craved more knowledge than she was able to get during her half-hour lessons.  She checked out books from the library and transcribed information about chords, scales and key signatures as she made sense of it all.  Amy wanted to know her instrument inside and out!  Of course, she has since realized that knowing her instrument will provide a lifetime of fun exploration, learning and practice.  The legendary cellist, Pablo Casals was asked why he kept practicing at the age of 90.  He said, "Because I feel like I'm making progress."  Amy loves that music is something that can be enjoyed and improved for life!  Amy is passionate about giving her students a solid foundation to this adventure by teaching all aspects of piano playing, including technique, ear-training, theory and musicality. Amy's persistent work has fostered an ability to guide her students through every detailed step of the learning process. Amy enjoys discovering each of her students' strengths, gifts, and areas of musical interest. She strives to magnify those gifts while also motivating students to continue growing in the aspects of music that don't come as natural. Amy loves her pianists and wants them to be confident, well-rounded musicians who know how to practice effectively on their own and who find great joy in expressing themselves through their instrument. She can't wait to meet you!
